If you are here, then you are already looking for Pilates classes in Chelsea. Just 11-15 mins from Chelsea is West Brampton, where you will find La Dolce Studio.

I will go into more detail about the studio goals, the benefits, and the background story of the pilates instructor.

La Dolce Pilates Studio Chelsea, UK

La Dolce Studio does not offer your average pilates classes. They use the Pilates reformer approach, which is a machine that is used during your pilates training in Chelsea.

Pilates reformers can be a bit intimidating, but La Dolce is there to assist you throughout the process. Aside from pilates reformers, La Dolce offers 1-on-1 sessions.

The 1to1 sessions are there because the La Dolce team wants to help you with your individual goals. They can offer workout plans tailored towards your body goals to know what you are going into every time.

Before we get into the benefits, let’s talk about the pilates reformer approach that La Dolce Studio uses.

What is Pilates Reformer?

Pilates Reformer

Source: pilates

Pilates reformer steams from pilates which Joseph Pilates developed in the early 1900s. This method was intended to “re-learn” how the body was meant to move by applying this machine.

The machine helps the movements of your body by moving against resistance. The resistance allows someone to not only gain strength but boost stability and fluidity.

At first glance, the machine does look a bit intense, but the exercise will help unite the mind and body. The 1to1 sessions help you with this so that you are not discouraged. The exercise involves controlled breathing and rhythmic movements.

ClassPass best explains the machine as,

a seat on track, attached to springs for resistance and outfitted with ropes and bars for balance and alignment.”

The machine will allow you to perform exercises that keep the body in the correct position. The positioning will help people know where the correct spot is and feel the targeted muscles.

The exercises consist of a push and pull where every contraction has a release. It is a full-body routine that syncs your mind and body while working out your muscles.

Mat vs Reformer Pilates

People who first think of pilates think of mat work and relate it very closely to yoga. Before we got into the difference between mat and reformer pilates, I wanted to mention yoga’s difference briefly.

Mentally, yoga and pilates have similar benefits, and both can help with posture. Yoga will strictly focus on flexibility and the mind, while pilates focuses on muscle movement and strength.

Mat work

traditional form of pilates

Mat work is the traditional form of pilates that people do. This does not mean that it is easier than reformer pilates. There are advanced classes, and with mat work, your body weight provides resistance against gravity.

In terms of exercises, there is more of a variety of movements than with the reformer. Mat work will focus on your legs, stomach, lower and upper back muscles.

Depending on the level of the class, mat work can add more pressure to your joints rather than the reformer.

Mat work is a great place to start, but you don’t need to know how to do mat pilates do the reformer.

Reformer

We have already gone into detail about the reformer and talked about the mat work. But I will discuss the main difference between the mat work and the reformer. With the reformer, you're limited to the general movements that you can do during a class.

As I mentioned earlier, working out with the reformer consists of a contract and release exercise. Also, since you are working out and rhythmic motions with the reformer, you are focusing more on your breathing compared to mat work. The mat work will have more movements that are often harder to focus on your breath due to staying within the position.

With the reformer, you don't have to worry about staying in the position. The machine does the work for you.

To summarise the differences, matt work consists of more exercises that are likely to provide more pressure on the joints. With the reformer, the machine is your resistance, and with matt work, your body is the resistance.

The reformer will provide more mental benefits as you have a better chance to focus on your breathing.

Both approaches have their benefits. It just depends on the person and what they prefer to use.

Now let’s talk about how the La Dolce Pilates approach can benefit you.

Benefits of Pilates Training Chelsea

With pilates training Chelsea, you are receiving both physical and mental benefits.

Physical Benefits

  1. The pilates reformer targets your abs, lower back, and glutes. The reformer directly focuses on muscle engagement and the alignment of your body. This approach improves posture, gives a better sense of balance, and better stability. Stability is essential because a stable body helps you with your movement and reduces the risk of injury.

  2. With the reformer, you are working against resistance which builds strength. It probably doesn’t look like you are burning calories, but this brings many long-term benefits. You can experience lean muscle mass, increased metabolism, and overall greater resistance to metabolic disorders.

  3. The reformer is also a tremendous no-impact workout. You will primarily be laying down or kneeling, but little pressure will be on your joints. The less pressure on your joints means that the reformer is a great way to recover from an injury and strengthen your muscles.

Mental Benefits

  1. Pilates requires syncing your breath with your movement. The reformer helps to reduce stress on your mind and focus on body awareness. You will get a better sense of what your body is trying to tell you through future physical signs.

Focusing on your breathing will help with control and quiet your mind. If you are a busy person, then pilates is a great way to slow down your breathing and relax your thoughts.

  1. As I mentioned briefly, the breathing technique will allow for improved focus on both your mind and body. Often, our minds are running through every thought, and it can get overwhelming. To have a focused mind, you will have improved thinking and problem-solving.

  2. Now the actual movements are very fluid and soothing. The rhythmic motions can be a stress reliever. The motions connect with all the mental benefits by focusing on breath and concentration.

Now that was a lot of information! We learned about La Dolce Studio and its approach to pilates.

La Dolce uses the pilates reformer approach, which involves a machine! It can seem scary, but the benefits are worth it. Speaking of benefits, I identified the benefits that pilates can offer, ranging from physical to mental.

Physically, you are working a lot on your posture, strength building, and stability. Mentally, pilates is a great stress reliever that allows you to focus on your breath.

One of the most informative sections discussed the difference between mat work and reformer pilates. On the mat, pilates has more exercises, and there are advanced classes that are more challenging. You are still working out parts of your body, but you do not focus on breathing as much.

For reformer pilates, we had a chance to see how the machine works. From there, the reformer is a big difference by focusing on the rhythmic movements.

Finally, we can not forget about Daniela! Her inspiring story adds personality to the La Dolce Studio.
